You're Welcome America: Will Ferrell's tribute to America's 43rd President

Over the weekend, HBO aired 'You're Welcome America,' Will Ferrell's 90 minute "tribute" to President George W. Bush.

The one-man show ran on Broadway from February 5 - March 15, and HBO was kind enough to film it and bring it to the rest of the country in Hi-definition.

Ferrell originally began the Bush schtick on 'Saturday Night Live'  a few years back, and made a resurgence during the campaign season prior to November's election. Here is a clip from SNL with Ferrell as Bush, and Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.

If you haven't managed to catch the special yet, it is on HBO On-Demand now, and I'm sure will be aired again on the regular HBO network, probably until the midterm election. I need to watch the show again in its entirety before I can assess whether it was truly funny or not. There were definitely flashes of greatness, but as a whole, the verdict is still out.

The clip below is from a set of previews HBO has on their website where Ferrell, as Bush is interviewing himself. Bush asks Bush how he would describe his 8 years in office in one word...

  1. I am amused by Will Ferrell's portrayal of Bush on a general level, but as a whole, the special wasn't funny to me...to each his own I guess
