Last night marked the beginning of the Conan O'Brien era on NBC's Tonight Show. O'Brien has been off the airwaves for three months now, as Jay Leno was stepping down and Jimmy Fallon has tried to embrace O'Brien's vacated role on 'Late Night.' Not sure how I feel about Conan on the Tonight Show yet, so I'm withholding judgment for a bit. See the first episode for yourself:
I stayed up last night to watch the first episode of the Jimmy Fallon Late Night era. The show featured a Conan O'Brien cameo, a performance by Van Morrison, and guest appearances by Robert DeNiro and Justin Timberlake.
The show was solid. Fallon was visibly nervous and admitted so to DeNiro, but then again who wouldn't be if they had to take over for the wildly popular Conan?
My favorite part of the night, the show, the whole situation was/is the legendary Roots Crew rocking as the house band. I know Max Weinberg plays with Bruce Springsteen and everything, but I believe Questlove of the Roots could take him to school any day.
That being said, my favorite part of Fallon's first show was when he "slow-jammed the news." With the help of Blackthoughts lyrical stylings and the dulcet tones of the Roots band, Fallon talked about Nancy Pelosi hammering Congressional leaders for opposing President Obama's economic policy...
A seemingly boring topic, but with Fallon's humor and the Roots being so ridiculously talented, it quickly became my favorite part of the show. Enjoy the clip.
Good luck in your quest to become king of the late night Jimmy. You already hit a home run with the house band in my opinion.
The U.S. government has responded by agreeing to give AIG another $30 BILLION in bailout funds to stay afloat. This new agreement is the fourth instance in which the government has infused $$$ to keep AIG from going bankrupt.
Bobby Jindal got crushed!!The talking heads across all major news outlets criticized Jindal's speech, calling it "cheesy," and a "flop," and also lacking substance. Ouch!
On last week's episode ofNBC's show 30 Rock, Tracy Morgan's character appeared on 'Larry King Live' to discuss the economic crisis and how Americans should maneuver through these times. Tracy told Larry that he always hides cash and encourages Americans to do the same. Tracy tells Larry that he has a stash of $$$ hidden "in the safest place in 30 Rock.."
We later find out that Tracy's cash is hidden inside the blazer of Kenneth the Page, and Kenneth uses some of Tracy's cash to "bail out" 30 Rock star Liz Lemon (Tina Fey).
I couldn't help but wonder, sincea lot of comparisons have been madebetween Bobby Jindal and Kenneth the Page, and Kenneth came through in the clutch with some bailout funds, when people didn't expect much from him...can/will Jindal and the GOP ever change their tone and work with the President to make the bailout effective and efficient ??
The verdict remains to be seen, but in the mean time we can all get a good laugh out of it.
Andy Samberg and his boys at Lonely Island are back with another SNL digital short. You may not know these guys by name, but I'm sure you have seen their work...
The guys who brought 'Lazy Sunday,'and more recently 'Jizz in my pants' are back with another short. This new release 'I'm on a boat' features T.Pain, and can be best summarized simply by saying that this is what happens when Big Pimpin' meets SNL meets T-Pain...pretty hilarious stuff.
