Jimmy Fallon makes his late night debut...with the Roots!!

I stayed up last night to watch the first episode of the Jimmy Fallon Late Night era. The show featured a Conan O'Brien cameo, a performance by Van Morrison, and guest appearances by Robert DeNiro and Justin Timberlake.

The show was solid. Fallon was visibly nervous and admitted so to DeNiro, but then again who wouldn't be if they had to take over for the wildly popular Conan?

My favorite part of the night, the show, the whole situation was/is the legendary Roots Crew rocking as the house band.  I know Max Weinberg plays with Bruce Springsteen and everything, but I  believe Questlove of the Roots could take him to school any day.

That being said, my favorite part of Fallon's first show was when he "slow-jammed the news."  With the help of Blackthoughts lyrical stylings and the dulcet tones of the Roots band, Fallon talked about Nancy Pelosi hammering Congressional leaders for opposing President Obama's economic policy...

A seemingly boring topic, but with Fallon's humor and the Roots being so ridiculously talented, it quickly became my favorite part of the show. Enjoy the clip.

Good luck in your quest to become king of the late night Jimmy. You already hit a home run with the house band in my opinion.
